Samsara

I collaborated with Infinity 27 on their game "Samsara" in February 2024, focusing on professional growth in Unreal Engine through their Design Strand. Over seven-hour daily sessions, I crafted a mock level and quest inspired by Tibetan folklore, centred around the mystical Kingdom of Shambala.

In the quest, players assist a pilgrim named Anve-Saka in clearing enemies from a location believed to be Shambala, engaging in dialogue with branching paths that influence karmic outcomes. The setting is an overgrown and dilapidated temple buried underground, presenting challenges such as combat, platforming, and puzzles.

The quest design process began in Miro, where considerations such as character motivation and emotional engagement were outlined. Meaningful dialogue options were developed to immerse players in the experience, with dialogue trees crafted to handle player choices like refusal or completion of the quest before interacting with Anve-Saka.

The level design followed an iterative approach, starting with a bubble diagram to plan the layout. This evolved into White Box design to establish the size and structure within Unreal Engine. Greyboxing in Unreal Engine's modeling mode followed, creating playable spaces furnished with enemies, lighting, items, platforming, and puzzles. Peer review led to iterative changes during this phase. Finally, NPC interactions and art assets were integrated into a single room to provide a visual representation to the art team.
