Planet Panic is an arcade-style game developed for a Godot game jam by a team of five. Players use the mouse to manipulate planets' orbits, dodging asteroids heading towards the central Sun. Points are earned by managing more planets, destroying asteroids, and utilizing power-ups, with the challenge being how many planets one can handle.
As the team leader for Planet Panic, I conceived the game's concept during a brainstorming session. Utilizing Nuclino, I swiftly crafted a comprehensive design document complemented by concept art, ensuring our team had a clear vision. Through this process, I realized the importance of detailed documentation, covering mechanics, characters, colour palette, animations, and sound, which streamlined programming, art, and music production. I honed my delegation skills, organizing the team's backlog and overseeing development to promptly address any queries or decisions. Additionally, I contributed to sprite and animation creation, offered in-engine support, and gained valuable insights into optimizing workflow within Godot.
We ended up winning the jam and coming first in all categories with a very positive reception.
