Hyper Neon Delta Overdrive
Hyper Neon Delta OverDrive (HNDO) channels the frenzy of its namesake, conceived during a bullet hell game jam by a team of five, led by myself. As the lead designer, I crafted the concept: an arcade-style bullet hell where survival and high scores hinge on 10 seconds rounds of intense gameplay. The twist? Your projectile ricochets, demolishing enemies and their onslaught while demanding precision dodges to reclaim the bouncing bullet.
My design was mindful to maintain a rapid gameplay loop at the core, HNDO aims to revive the classic arcade vibe with modern game feel. Static enemies materialize at the round's onset, inviting swift, strategic destruction. Entering the bullets area slow-motion kicks in, granting players precious bullet-time amidst the chaos. Visual effects, from screen shake to particle explosions, heighten the sense of impact, while a fading neon glow subtly signals time's passage without distracting from the action.
In crafting HNDO's aesthetics, I delved into the vibrant neon palette of the '80s arcade era, drawing inspiration from vaporwave's wireframe geometry for a perfect blend of nostalgia and innovation. Every asset, meticulously crafted in Photoshop and Aesprite, pulsates with neon glow, bringing the wireframe arcade style to life.
HNDO served as a crucible for honing my skills as both artist and designer, melding visuals and gameplay into a seamless experience. I invite you to play it for yourself!
